Technology Development Kit (TDK) $500,000

Salgenx has built the saltwater battery platform and the hard parts of the electrochemical architecture. The remaining variable is cathode selection and final cathode-electrolyzer tuning, which depends on the buyer’s target chemistry, sourcing, and manufacturing strategy. The Salgenx Technology Development Kit lets a buyer start from a validated foundation, finish the cathode to fit their IP strategy, and commercialize under their own brand—or optionally under the Salgenx name—without buying the entire company.

Core offer

Bundled eliverable package:

1. System architecture

• Cell/module topology, tanking concept, piping and materials of construction, gas handling approach (where applicable), electrical stack design principles, sensors and controls philosophy.

2. Anode subsystem

• Chlorinator/anode approach (completed and ready for commercialization), design drawings/specs, operating envelopes, failure modes you’ve already observed, cleaning/regeneration procedures.

3. Electrolyte and operating protocol

• Saltwater specifications, concentration ranges, additives, temperature/flow/pressure guidance, charge/discharge protocol templates, safety SOPs.

4. Flow battery evidence

• Current science, photos, videos, data tables, bill of materials, vendor list, and lessons learned.

5. Commercialization playbook

• Containerized or modular packaging concept, manufacturing workflow (even if pilot-scale), cost model scaffolding (what you know, what remains).

What the buyer completes (choose-your-own cathode)

• Buyer finalizes cathode chemistry and electrode format (e.g., zinc-based or NTP/NaTi₂(PO₄)₃-based) and then tunes:

• Structures of electrode design (heavy IP area)

• Cathode current density targets

• Plating/stripping or intercalation protocol

• Liquid separator choice, electrolyte compatibility, and impurity tolerance

• Cycle-life stabilization strategies

• Scale manufacturing method for the cathode/electrode

This reframes the unfinished part as a feature: it lets buyer own the keystone IP.

Step-by-step path forward (buyer journey)

Phase 0 — Fit check (1–2 weeks equivalent effort)

Goal: Confirm the platform matches their use case before they commit.

Buyer selects one of two product intents:

• Grid storage / long duration (cost and durability lead)

• Industrial energy + co-products (process integration lead)

Deliverables from Salgenx:

1. Read-only Tech Brief (non-confidential) + 1-hour technical call

2. Use-case alignment worksheet

3. Risk register template (what can kill the project)

Buyer decision gate:

• Proceed to TDK purchase or walk away with minimal spend.

image

Phase 1 — Technology Development Kit purchase (2–6 weeks equivalent effort)

Goal: Transfer Salgenx TDK into a buyer-controlled engineering package.

Deliverables:

1. Engineering package

• Drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams (as available), BOM, vendor list, assembly procedure, commissioning checklist.

2. Test package

• Raw test results, test protocols, known failure modes, troubleshooting guide.

3. Operating envelopes

• Safe ranges and don’t do this conditions.

4. IP strategy guide

• What you believe is background vs. what they can patent when they complete the cathode.

Commercial structure:

• Upfront kit fee (for transfer + support hours)

• Optional support retainer for integration help (time & materials or fixed packages)

Decision gate:

• Buyer confirms they can build/replicate the baseline.

image

Phase 2 — Buyer IP filing + cathode development sprint (4–16 weeks)

Goal: Buyer creates differentiated cathode IP and locks freedom-to-operate directionally.

Buyer actions:

1. Decide cathode path:

• Zinc-based (manufacturing simplicity, plating risks)

• NTP-based (materials sourcing and electrode processing risks)

2. Build test articles: coupon cells → small stack → pilot module

3. Patent IP Option: File at least one provisional patent around cathode composition, electrode structure, electrolyte additives, cycling protocol, or manufacturing method.

Salgenx role:

• Provide integration constraints (what must remain compatible with your platform: flow rates, voltage window, materials limits, gas handling, etc.)

• Provide optional design review sessions.

Decision gate:

• Hit agreed performance minimums: coulombic efficiency, cycle-life target, dendrite/control strategy (zinc) or stability and rate capability (NTP).

image

Phase 3 — Pre-pilot and manufacturability (8–20 weeks)

Goal: Transition from lab success to a repeatable pilot unit.

Deliverables:

1. Pilot BOM + costing

2. DFM notes (tolerances, coatings, assembly time estimates)

3. Supplier qualification plan for electrodes, pumps, plastics, power electronics

4. Safety and compliance plan appropriate to their region (electrical, chemical handling, transport)

Decision gate:

• Pilot build meets performance with repeatability across multiple units.

Phase 4 — Commercialization options (ongoing)

Buyer selects one of three tracks:

1. Independent commercialization

• They manufacture and sell under their brand. Salgenx stays as a support/vendor relationship.

2. Brand license

• Buyer pays to use Salgenx name in a specific territory/market segment with brand standards.

3. Sales leads / channel package

• Buyer can purchase lead lists, introductions, or channel partnerships that Salgenx has developed.

Development strategy

Positioning

• We’re not selling a science project. We’re selling a platform with one intentional open variable: the cathode, which becomes your proprietary advantage. The concept has been proven in a USA university and PNL with $7 million in funding. The technology goes back to 1884.

Why this works for buyers

• Time compression: They skip foundational architecture and go straight to differentiation.

• IP clarity: They can own the critical claim set (cathode + method).

• Lower upfront risk: They buy a kit + support rather than acquiring a license or company.

TDK Stategy Options

1. TDK Core

• Documentation + baseline replication support

2. TDK Plus

• Core + structured cathode integration support + pilot design review
