Figure S4: 13C NMR spectrum of 3,3'-bisalkoxy(TEG)-2,2'-bithiophene measured in CDCl3. Synthesis of 5,5'-dibromo-3,3'- bisalkoxy(TEG)-2,2'-bithiophene A protocol by Nielsen et al. was followed and slight modifications were carried out.2 A two neck RBF was dried under vacuum and purged with argon. 3,3'-bisalkoxy(TEG)-2,2'-bithiophene (1.83 g. 2.24 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous THF (200 mL), degassed with argon and cooled to - 20 °C. NBS (0.83 g, 4.66 mmol) was added in the dark and the reaction mixture was stirred for 10 min (reaction control indicated full conversion after 10 min). The reaction was quenched by the addition of 100 mL of 1 M NaHCO3 aqueous solution, followed by the addition of 150 mL of ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water (3 x 100 mL), dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Purification of the crude product was carried out by column chromatography on silica gel with a solvent mixture of hexane : ethyl acetate in the ration of 1 : 1 with 1 % of triethylamine. Finally, the product was recrystallised from diethyl ether/hexane to afford the product as a yellow solid with a yield of 60 %. (1.45 g, 2.24mmol). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 6.85 (s, 2H), 4.21 – 4.18 (m, 4H), 3.88 – 3.85 (m, 4H), 3.75 – 3.73 (m, 4H), 3.70 – 3.68 (m, 4H), 3.68 – 3.65 (m, 4H), 3.57 – 3.54 (m, 4H), 3.38 (s, 6H) ppm. 13C NMR (100 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 150.3, 119.8, 116.0, 111.2, 72.1, 71.8, 71.1, 70.9, 70.8, 70.3, 59.2 ppm. Product and Development Focus for Salgenx

Redox Flow Battery Technology: With the advent of the new USA tax credits for producing and selling batteries ($35/kW) we are focussing on a simple flow battery using shipping containers as the modular electrolyte storage units with tax credits up to $140,000 per system.

Our main focus is on the salt battery. This battery can be used for both thermal and electrical storage applications.

We call it the Cogeneration Battery or Cogen Battery.

One project is converting salt (brine) based water conditioners to simultaneously produce power.

In addition, there are many opportunities to extract Lithium from brine (salt lakes, groundwater, and producer water).

Salt water or brine are huge sources for lithium. Most of the worlds lithium is acquired from a brine source. It's even in seawater in a low concentration. Brine is also a byproduct of huge powerplants, which can now use that as an electrolyte and a huge flow battery (which allows storage at the source).

We welcome any business and equipment inquiries, as well as licensing our flow battery manufacturing.
