HEV & EV Post-Crash & Fire
Preplan ahead of these events to better prepare for response, mitigation, towing, and storage of damaged HEVs & EVs.
• Always use a flatbed to tow an HEV or EV as rotating the axle may re-energize the battery.
• Consider LE and fire resources to escort tow truck to a storage site and store all damaged HEVs and EVs at least 50 feet away from other vehicles and structures.
• Stranded energy inside the battery will remain a threat until authorized HEV or EV manufacturers & personnel break down the vehicles and battery packs.
